Stadelmann won in a big reversal
A tight race between Switzerland’s Jenjira Stadelmann and Ireland’s Rachael Darragh ended the second race of the day. Stadelman narrowly won the last two sets, and after losing the first, she converted a match point at a crucial moment in the second. The final score of 13-21, 24-22, 21-15 showed the fierce rivalry between the two players.
Despite their strong performances, both face stiff challenges in Group L, which is headed by Carolina Marin, one of the biggest contenders for a women’s singles medal. If Stadelman and Dalagher are to progress, Marin will have to lose against Dalagher tomorrow, and with Marin’s brilliant record, that seems unlikely to happen. Whether Dalagher can surprise us remains to be seen.
