Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk

Character Introduction

Tannongsak is a Thai male badminton player.

Under the influence of his father, who was very fond of badminton, Tannongsak began to learn badminton at the age of nine. At the age of 15, he was selected as one of the youngest members of the Thai national badminton team.

In November 2010, Tannongsak represented Thailand at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, where he competed in the men’s singles and men’s team events, winning the bronze medal in the men’s team.

In July 2013, Tannongsak represented Thailand at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, winning the gold medal in the men’s singles and the bronze medal in the mixed team.

In August 2013, Tannongsak participated in the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China, playing in the men’s singles event. He automatically advanced in the first round due to a forfeit by his opponent, but went out in the second round, 1-2 (5-21, 21-16, 15-21) against the No. 3 seed, Du Pengyu of China. At the Taipei Golden Grand Prix in September 2011, the fresh-faced, somewhat scrawny-looking Thai boy actually held off Vietnamese star Nguyen Tien Minh in the semifinals, only to lose to Indonesian newcomer Sugiarto in the final. Although he only ended up with a silver medal, it was Tannongsak’s best result to date, and because of it, his name began to become more and more familiar.

In August 2014, Dhanongsak Samsongbunsu participated in the World Badminton Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, playing in the men’s singles event. He advanced in the first round by defeating Scotland’s Kieran Merrillis 2-0, and then eliminated India’s Ajay Jayaram 2-0 in the second round; however, when he faced Dutch veteran Fong Fatt Choi in the third round, he lost 1-2 (21-19, 18-21, 16-21), stopping him in the round of 16.

Tannunsak made it through to the final of the 2016 Danish Superseries, where Tannunsak won the title with a straight-set victory over Son Wan Ho. It was also Tannunsak’s first career Superseries title.
