Wang Zhengxing: Not a glass body

At the Asian Team Championships earlier this year, Wang Zhengxing, as the third singles player of the national badminton men’s team, repeatedly made contributions in the key third singles finals. In addition to the men’s team gold medal in the National Championships a few years ago and the mixed team gold medal in the Universiade last year, his team competition ability has gradually become well-known. In the past, many viewers always thought that he was skinny and had a “glass” physique, and was easily injured, but he clarified: “I can practice very well!”

My father introduced me to badminton

Is there anyone you want to thank in particular? Who has had a big impact on you? (Little Monster likes puppies)

My father and teacher Zhang Shaochen are the ones who had the greatest influence on my badminton journey. There is no need to say much about teacher Zhang, as everyone is familiar with our story. He was very strict with me since I was a child and was very attentive and concerned about us. My father was the one who led me to the path of badminton. He has loved badminton since he was in college, so he always took me to play after I entered elementary school and started to teach me some moves. Later, I gradually learned how to play with him.

What local dishes do you recommend? What do you like to eat the most? (Qinghai Grassland-Go Guoyu Olympics)

Huaihua’s blood-baked duck and Yuanling’s sun-dried orchid meat! But my favorite is the fried duck with edamame made by my mother.

What do you like to do when you are not competing? (Qinghai Grassland-Go Guoyu Olympics)

I like to go find something delicious or watch a movie.

What is the most impressive game you have ever played? (Little Monster likes puppies)

It should be the quarter-finals of the Asian Men’s Team Championships against Indonesia. I played as the third singles against Marcelino of Indonesia. I won the second game 24-22. In that game, I was in the lead, but then I was reversed, and then I adjusted my mentality to come back. I felt that I had matured a bit, and also helped the team reach the semi-finals.

What are the goals and prospects for the 2024 season? Where will the ranking be raised? (Xinxin with glasses, Little Monster likes puppies, Sigh that no one understands the flower)

I still hope to aim to participate in the tour, and try to get my ranking up to at least be able to participate in the 300th tournament, and it would be best if I could participate in the 500th tournament!

What is your biggest improvement in the past year? (Little Monster likes puppies, has the happy girl lost weight today?)

I think my mentality has become a little more mature. When I encounter difficulties on the court, or even when I am unable to solve a problem, I am not as nervous as before and I give myself some confidence.

I once rode a bicycle from Chengdu to Tibet

Besides playing ball, what other hobbies do you have? (Tao Wuyun)

I like swimming and cycling. In 2017, when I was only 15 years old, my dad and I rode bicycles from Chengdu to Tibet. It took us nearly a month to get there. I am still very proud of this.

Mixed team and men’s team, two different team competitions, playing different positions before the game preparation, is there any difference in mentality? (change vitality)

I might be more nervous when playing in the men’s team, because this is a BWF competition and the team’s championship project, while the atmosphere in the Universiade might be relatively relaxed, everyone is competing, but also communicating and making friends. The specific positions are also very different. When playing in the Asian group, I played as the third singles, and the third singles in the knockout stage means either win or lose, so the pressure is really great. In the mixed team competition of the Universiade, the men’s singles usually play second or third. If the teammates are strong, the pressure will not be too great.

As the third singles player in the Asian Group Championship, he helped the Chinese team secure victory in two consecutive games with the final key points. Did you expect that you could play such a big role before the game? How did you withstand the pressure and win? (The last chestnut)

I don’t think about whether I can play a role or not. As long as the team believes in me and chooses me to play, I must firmly believe that I can play my ability. Even if the opponent is stronger than me, I must find a way to attack the opponent and even break the opponent. In the face of pressure, I think I have found some ideas now. Because I play offense and speed, it is best to strike first at the beginning and gain an advantage through active offense. Attack is the best way to relax and release yourself, which complements each other.

Do you have a fixed dinner partner when you go out? (Qinghai Grassland-Go Guoyu Olympics)

Brother Zu (Lu Guangzu) often takes me out to eat, and he can eat spicy food, so we can try a lot of dishes.

Who do you admire most? (Little Monster likes puppies)

Brother Qi (Shi Yuqi).

Not thin at all actually

Do you have a physique that makes you unable to gain weight? You are always thin. (Mai)

Really not, I just don’t look fat, in fact I have always been over 70 kg, sometimes even up to 80 kg, maybe people just can’t see it. I don’t understand why people say I have a “glass body” online, maybe it’s because I withdrew from the Hangzhou Challenge last year due to injury. I want to say that I don’t have a glass body, I am in good health, and I am considered to be a very good trainer in the men’s singles group.

Who is the most talkative in the Chinese men’s singles group? Who is the funniest? (Step back)

I think the one who talks the most is Brother Peng (Zhao Junpeng). He’s the funniest… Don’t offend people, haha! As for me, because I have a lot of acne.

Why do you have so many pimples on your face? (Mr. Qinqin)

I seem to have had a lot of acne since I started puberty, and I don’t know the specific reason.

If you play doubles (mixed doubles, men’s doubles), who should you choose as your partner? (Careless Marshall)

When I was young, I played doubles. I mainly played men’s doubles. In 2019, I won the men’s doubles championship in the National Youth Championship with Peng Jianqin from the Hunan team. It would be interesting to play men’s doubles with the men’s singles players. Anyway, it’s like we are all playing half court and we are not very good at it. In fact, we occasionally practice doubles during training.

How do you feel about people paying more attention to your looks than your basketball skills? (Escape from the Earth boo, 棌叶䁒eave)

I don’t think I’m that good-looking. I have a lot of pimples on my face and my teeth aren’t that nice looking either.
