Chen Yu Fei


Character Introduction

Chen Yufei (陈雨菲), born on 1 March 1998 in Tonglu County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is a women’s singles player on the Chinese badminton team, and the women’s singles badminton champion at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2004, Chen Yufei was selected by Hangzhou Chen Jinglun Sports School when she was in her kindergarten class.

In 2006, Chen Yufei entered the Zhejiang badminton team.

In 2011, Chen Yufei was selected to train with the National Youth Team.

In 2012, Chen Yufei entered the national badminton team, and won the first silver medal in girls singles and bronze medal in girls doubles in the Asian U15 and U17 Junior Badminton Championships held in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province.

In 2013, at the World Junior Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei was defeated by Kim Hyeok-min 1-2 and stopped in the quarter-finals .

On 23 February 2014, 2014 Asian Junior Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei defeated Xi Yamaguchi 0-2, won the silver medal in women’s singles; in March of the same year, 2014 German Youth Badminton International Championships, Chen Yufei defeated Qin Jinjing 0-2, won the second place in women’s singles .

On 17 July 2016, the Asian Youth Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Mariska . On 13 November of the same year, World Junior Badminton Championships (Spain), Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Shong Chuwo; on 4 December of the same year, China Macau Badminton Golden Grand Prix, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Chen Xiaoxin .

On 27 August 2017, at the 2017 World Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei defeated Pusarla Venkata Sindhu 0-2, and did not advance to the final; on 3 September of the same year, at the Thirteenth Sports Games of the People’s Republic of China (2017 Tianjin National Games), Chen Yufei, Ling Ziqiao, Huang Yaqiong, and Shao Jingjing, representing Zhejiang, won the third place in the team with a 3-0 victory over Guangxi.

In September 2017, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles badminton title at the Thirteenth Games of the People’s Republic of China (2017 Tianjin National Games).

On 11 March 2018, at the Badminton World Federation World Tour Germany Open, Chen Yufei was the runner-up in the women’s singles with a 1-2 defeat against Xi Yamaguchi; on 18 March of the same year, at the 2018 All England Open Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei was defeated by Dai Ziyin with a 1-2 defeat to the finals[28]; and on 29 April of the same year, and on 11 November 2018, at the 2018 Fuzhou China Open Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei won the title of women’s singles with a 2-0 victory over Hope Okuhara to win the women’s singles title.

On 10 March 2019, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Tai Tzu Ying at the All England Open Badminton Championships

On 26 May 2019, Chen Yufei won the 2019 Sudirman Cup World Badminton Mixed Team Championships with her teammates
On 10 November 2019, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title at the 2019 Badminton World Federation China 750 Open with a 2-1 win over Hope Okuhara

On 15 December 2019, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-1 victory over Tai Tzu Ying at the WBF Pro Tour Finals.

On 10 November 2020, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles final of the National Badminton Championships with a 4-2 victory over Wang Zhiyi.

On 2 May 2021, 2021 National Badminton Championships, Chen Yufei won the women’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Han Yue

On 1 August 2021, Chen Yufei won the Tokyo Olympics Women’s Singles Badminton Final with a 2-1 (21-18, 19-21 and 21-18) victory over Tai Ziyin.

On 17 September 2021, in the women’s badminton singles match of the 14th National Games, Chen Yufei defeated her opponent He Bingjiao 2-0 to win the gold medal, becoming the second defending women’s badminton singles champion in the history of the Games.

In October 2021, she won the 2021 Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Badminton Championships.

On 17 October 2021, in the Uber Cup Badminton Team Championships, the Chinese team of Chen Yufei and Chen Qingchen, Jia Yifan, He Bingjiao, Huang Dongping, and Li Wenmei won the title with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Japan.

Chen Yufei of China won the Indonesia Badminton Masters Women’s Singles Final on 12 June 2022 in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, with a 2-1 victory over Thailand’s Indanon.
