Germanys Roth Shines on Opening Day
The opening day of the 2024 European Championships has concluded, with the men’s and women’s singles events advancing to the round of 64. The highlight in Saarbrücken was the match between German player Fabian Roth and Austrian player Luka Wraber.
On home soil, Roth triumphed over Wraber, winning two straight sets 21-10, 21-16, securing his victory. Roth will face Hungarian player Gergő Péter in his next match on Wednesday.
The European Championships also provided a platform for emerging talents, with Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova and Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova seizing the opportunity to advance to the next round.
Seasoned players also found success, with the Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw, Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba, and Finland’s Kalle Koljonen, the 2021 European Championships bronze medalist, all securing spots in the next round.
Tomorrow’s matches will begin at 9 AM CEST, featuring the start of the first round for all three doubles categories.
