Park Joo Bong


Character Introduction

Park Joo Bong is a famous South Korean men’s doubles and mixed doubles badminton player, and is currently the head coach of the Japanese badminton national team. Born in Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, he graduated from Jeonju Agricultural and Forestry High School, Korea Sports University and Soon Chun Hyang University Graduate School.

Active in the badminton world from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, he won the 1985 World Championships Men’s Doubles, the 1989 World Championships Mixed Doubles, the 1991 World Championships Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles, and the 1992 Olympic Men’s Doubles. He was regarded as a once-in-a-century doubles wizard.

After his retirement, Park Joo-bong successively served as the chief coach of Malaysia (until 2002) and Japan national badminton team (since 2004 Athens Olympics to date, at least until the end of the Paris Olympics in 2024), Takahashi Lihua, Matsutomo Misaki became the first doubles team he coached Olympic champions.
