Arisa Higashino: Winning the Title is a Great Start to 2024
Today, Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino defeated Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun 2-1 to win the mixed doubles gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Open, becoming the first Japanese mixed doubles pair to claim the title at this tournament.
After the match, Yuta Watanabe said, “We felt the pressure was more on our opponents. We also did our best to stay focused, which was key to our victory. This is a good start, but we will face more opponents ahead, and we will continue to do our best, focusing on winning each match.”
Arisa Higashino added, “We have made history, and I look forward to making more history with Yuta Watanabe. The India Open starts next week, and we will give it our all.”
Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino have made significant progress under the training of Malaysian coach Yen Wei Teck. Arisa Higashino said, “Coach Yen Wei Teck always communicates with us and helps us focus on key improvements.”
Three years ago, at the Tokyo Olympics, the pair fell short of winning gold on their home ground and settled for a bronze medal. This year, they will make another bid for gold.
