Character Introduction
Lee Hyo-jung (Hangul: 이효정, January 13, 1981) is a South Korean female badminton player who graduated from Yongin University.
In August 2008, Lee Hyo-jung represented South Korea at the Beijing Olympics, winning one gold and one silver in the women’s doubles (with Lee Kyung-won) and mixed doubles (with Lee Yong-dae) badminton events.
In May 2010, Lee represented Korea in the Uber Cup; her coach split the permanent Lee/Kyungwon pairing and replaced it with Kim Min-jeong. In the second match of the semifinals, the Lee/Kim pairing won 2-0 (21-19,21-10) against Japan’s Satoko Suezuna/Misun Maeda; Korea eventually advanced with a 3-1 win. In the second match of the final, the Lee/Kim team faced world No. 1 Ma Jin/Wang Xiaoli and rallied from a set down to win 2-1 (18-21,21-12,21-15); Korea eventually won the Uber Cup for the first time by defeating China 3-1. In November of the same year, Lee represented Korea at the Guangzhou Asian Games, winning one gold and two bronze medals in the women’s doubles (with Kim Min-jung), mixed doubles (with Shin Baek-cheol) and women’s team events.
In November 2010, Lee Hyo-jung represented Korea at the Guangzhou Asian Games, where she helped the Korean team win the bronze medal in the women’s team event, and then teamed up with Kim Min-jung and Shin Baek-che to compete in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events, winning a bronze medal in the women’s doubles and a gold medal in the mixed doubles. Lee Hyo-jung said after the match that she had not been working with Shin Baek-che for long and was happy to get the gold medal; she also said that she would not play until the London Olympics and would retire after the Asian Games.
