Character Introduction
Sho Sasaki is a Japanese male badminton player and an active member of the Japan national badminton team. Born in Hokkaido, he graduated from Kamiso Junior High School, Kanto Daiichi High School and Tokyo Fuji University Junior College, and is currently affiliated with Tonami Transportation Co.
In November 2010, Sasaki represented Japan at the Guangzhou Asian Games in the men’s badminton team event.
In 2012, Sho Sasaki represented Japan in the men’s singles badminton event at the Olympic Games in London, England; he advanced to the group stage by defeating Virgil Surulacho of Suriname 2-0 (21-12, 21-7).
In August 2013, Sho Sasaki participated in the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China, playing in the men’s singles event; he advanced by defeating Scotland’s Alistair Casey 2-0 in the first round, but went out in the second round with a 0-2 (15-21, 12-21) defeat against the No. 2 seed, Chen Long of China.
In August 2016, he represented Japan in the men’s singles badminton event at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, losing to Rajiv Ousf of Great Britain in the group stage before being eliminated with one win and one loss. After the Olympics, Sho Sasaki announced his retirement from international badminton and became the supervisor of the Hokuto Bank badminton team from November of the same year.
