An Se Young Hopes to Achieve Grand Slam with Olympic Victory

An Se Young advanced to her first Olympic women’s singles final at the Paris Olympics, defeating Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 11-21, 21-13, 21-16 in the semifinals. She will face China’s He Bingjiao in the final.

After the semifinal match, An Se Young admitted that she was very nervous and found it difficult to relax. She struggled at the beginning but kept telling herself, “I can do it, I can do it.” Regarding her first time reaching the Olympic gold medal match in women’s singles, she expressed great happiness but wants to save the joy of victory for tomorrow, focusing on preparing for the gold medal match.

An Se Young is a top contender for the gold medal in the women’s singles event at the Paris Olympics. She has a strong chance to become the second Korean player to win Olympic gold in women’s singles, following Bang Soo-hyun in 1996. If successful, she will achieve a Grand Slam in gold medals, having previously won gold at the World Championships and the Asian Games.
