Antonsen Announces Withdrawal from French Open Due to Injury, Ends 2022 Season Early

On October 26, Danish men’s singles badminton star Anders Antonsen announced his withdrawal from the ongoing French Open due to injury. This follows his withdrawal from the Denmark Open held at home. Currently ranked 3rd in the world, Antonsen has decided to withdraw from all remaining competitions this year, effectively ending his 2022 season prematurely.

25-year-old Antonsen posted on his social media on Tuesday, announcing his decision to withdraw from all remaining competitions this year due to injury: “2022 is over for me. My injury forces me to withdraw from the upcoming tournaments in France, Germany (Super 300 Hylo Open), and Australia (Super 300 Australian Open). With the cancellation of events in China, I probably won’t be competing again this year.”

Antonsen, who has won a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships, stated: “I need to take the time to truly recover from this injury rather than rushing back again and again. My injury has struck at the worst times, often keeping me out of competitions. It’s been frustrating for someone who loves the thrill of competition to be inactive.”

Despite his current struggles, Antonsen remains hopeful for a strong return next season: “I am eager to bounce back, address my issues, and work hard to return to the ranks of the world’s best players. That’s where I belong.”

Antonsen’s friend, Malaysian men’s singles independent player Lee Zii Jia, also left a supportive message: “Get well soon, brother. Hope to see you back on the court soon.”
