Anders Antonsen [4] (Denmark) took part in the Olympic quarter-finals today. Previously, he had advanced directly to the quarterfinals in the draw, just like his compatriot Viktor Axelsen, who also advanced directly to the quarterfinals.
His opponent was Li Zijia [7] (Malaysia). The last time they played each other at the 2024 Malaysian Masters, the Malaysian player triumphed on home soil. The Danish player is hoping for a different result this time around after a stellar 2024. However, it backfired as Chia played a very tight first set before the Malaysian dominated the second and led throughout the latter half of the match to win 21-17, 21-15.
Waiting for the Malaysians in the semi-finals will be world champion Kunvalut Vitidsarn. They will fight for a place in the Olympic final.
