Astrup/Rasmussen scored a crucial victory
Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen have been dubbed the “Group of death” in men’s doubles in badminton at this Olympics, but they have nevertheless performed well against tough opponents.
Group D is the only category in which there are not four but five pairs, and today is the Danish pair’s third group match. Astrup/Rasmussen scored a convincing victory over China’s Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi in straight sets 21-15 21-13.
The win makes the Danish pair the only pair in the group to have played all three matches so far, behind defending champions Li Yang/Wang Qilin of Chinese Taipei. With two wins and one loss, the Danes have a good chance of advancing in their final group match, but they are up against a formidable pair of Japanese duo Takuro Hoki/ Yugo Kobayashi.
