Axelsen Easily Defeats Loh Kean Yew: Not Thinking About a Three-Peat Just Yet

Denmark’s men’s singles world No. 1, Viktor Axelsen, expressed his enjoyment of playing in Kuala Lumpur after easily defeating Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in two straight games in the first round. However, he is not yet contemplating a three-peat at the Malaysia Open.

Having just turned 30 last Thursday, Axelsen mentioned in a post-match interview, “I know I’ve won the championship here for the past two years, but it’s too early to think about the title after just getting through the first round. I prefer to take it one match at a time. After a tough battle, I hope to rest well tomorrow and not think about anything else.”

It’s worth noting that in the history of the Malaysia Open, no non-Malaysian player has ever achieved three consecutive titles in the men’s singles. When asked about his goals for the Paris Olympics this July, Axelsen stated that he aims to maintain his health and form, focusing on performing well in each match to achieve good results at the Olympics.
