Character Introduction
Ayako Sakuramoto (さくらもと あやこ , August 19, 1995) is a Japanese female badminton player and a current member of the Japan national badminton team (B team).
In June 2012, Sakuramoto Ayako played in the Asian Junior Badminton Championships, helping her team win the mixed team title, and she helped her team win second place in the mixed team at the World Junior Badminton Championships in October.
In July 2016, Sakuraben Sakiko and Takahata Yukiko played in the Vietnam Badminton Grand Prix and recorded her best career international result when she was defeated by the tournament’s No. 3 seed and Indonesian powerhouse, Della Desdiala Harris/Rosilta Ika Putri Sari, 1-2 (21-13, 19-21, 15-21) in the women’s doubles semifinals.
In June 2017, she and Yukiko Takahata appeared at the Badminton International Spain, defeating compatriots Migo Shinya/Xi Watanabe 2-0 (21-10, 21-15) in the women’s doubles final to claim her first international professional title.
In February 2018, Sakurabayashi and Yukiko Takahata competed in the Swiss Open Badminton Championships, winning the title by upsetting the tournament’s top seeds, Gavrila Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria, 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 21-18) in the women’s doubles final. In May, Sakurabayashi and Takahata Yukiko competed in the Australian Open Badminton Championships. In the women’s doubles final, facing the tournament’s No. 4 seeded Korean superstar duo of Hana Paik/Yu-Rin Lee, they won the title by defeating their rivals 2-0 (23-21, 21-18) in a close first set, and then taking the second set in a row. In July of the same year, she and Yukiko Takahata played in the Singapore Open Badminton Championships, winning the women’s doubles final by defeating teammates Naomi Matsuyama/Chiyo Shida 2-1 (16-21, 24-22, 21-13).
