Carsten Mogensen


Character Introduction

Carsten Mogensen (July 24, 1983) is a Danish male badminton player.

In October 2007, Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Bowie played in the Bitburger Badminton Grand Prix, and won his first international Grand Prix men’s doubles title by defeating Rob Blair/David Lindley, the tournament’s 5th seed and England’s strongest team, 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) in the men’s doubles final.

In September 2008, he and Matthias Bowie played in the Chinese Taipei Badminton Golden Grand Prix, defeating the multinational duo of (USA: Wu Junming/Indonesia: Chen Jialiang) in the Men’s Doubles Final 2-0 (22-20, 21-14) to win their first International Golden Grand Prix Men’s Doubles title.

In January 2009, Carsten Mogensen and Matthias Bowie played in the Korea Badminton SuperSeries and won the first SuperSeries Men’s Doubles title of their badminton careers by defeating the tournament’s No. 2 seed and Korean powerhouse Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae 2-0 (21-12, 24-22) in the Men’s Doubles final.

In March 2010, Carsten Mogensen and Matthias Bowie played in the All England Badminton Superseries and won the runner-up spot in the men’s doubles final against teammates Lars Pask/Jonas Rasmussen 1-2 (23-21, 19-21, 24-26).

In January 2011, he and Matthias Bowie played in the BWF Super Series Finals and won their first ever Super Bowl year-end finals men’s doubles title, defeating Korean powerhouse Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) in the men’s doubles final. In March of the same year, he and Matthias Bowie played in the All England Badminton Premier Super Final, and won the All England Men’s Doubles title for the first time by defeating the tournament’s No. 5 seed and Malaysian powerhouse Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Hong 2-1 (15-21, 21-18, 21-18) in the Men’s Doubles Final.

In August 2012, he represented Denmark at the Olympic Games Badminton Tournament in London, England. He and Matthias Bowie played in the Men’s Doubles event, and defeated Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae of South Korea 2-1 (17-21, 21-18, 22-20) in a three-set battle in the semi-finals; and in the final, they were defeated by Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng of China 0-2 (16-21, 15-21), and won the men’s doubles title for Denmark. He won the Olympic silver medal in men’s doubles for Denmark.

In December 2012, he and Matthias Bowie played in the BWF Super Series Finals, and in the final, they defeated Japan’s Dayu Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa 2-0 (21-17, 21-19), successfully defending their year-end BWF Super Series Finals Men’s Doubles Championships title, completing an unprecedented three consecutive victories, and also the strongest Danish duo to have won the program the most times.

In August 2013, he represented Denmark at the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China. In the final, Morgensen/Bowie faced 6th seeded Hendra Setiawan / Muhammad Ahsan of Indonesia, and lost 0-2 (13-21, 21-23) after 33 minutes of play to finish second.

In January 2015, Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Bowie played in the Badminton India Golden Grand Prix and won the Golden Grand Prix Men’s Doubles title by defeating the tournament’s No. 4 seed and Russian powerhouse, Vladimir Ivanov / Ivan Sosonov, 2-0 (21-9, 22-20) in the men’s doubles final. In March of the same year, he and Matthias Bowie played in the All England Badminton Premier Super Tournament, defeating China’s Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) in the men’s doubles final to win the All England Men’s Doubles Championship. In June of the same year, he represented Denmark at the European Games badminton tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he won the inaugural European Games men’s doubles gold medal by defeating Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sosonov of Russia 2-0 (21-8, 21-13) in the final at absolute strength.

In January 2016, Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Bowie played in the Badminton India Golden Grand Prix and lost 0-2 (16-21, 18-21) to Malaysian powerhouse Goh Wee Seng/Tan Wee Keong in the men’s doubles semi-finals. In February of the same year, while representing Denmark at the European Men’s Badminton Team Championships in Kazan, Russia, he underwent a craniotomy for a ruptured aneurysm in the right side of his brain; the surgery was so successful that he was able to walk one week after the operation, and Morgensen returned to his hometown of Copenhagen on March 3, more than ten days after the surgery, accompanied by his wife and beloved son, who were with him as the family struggled through this difficult time.

The latest rankings of the Badminton World Federation were released, and a year after its own recovery and comeback with partner Mathias Bowie, the combination of him and Mathias Bowie once again reached the first place in the world ranking of men’s doubles (June 15, 2017)

In February 2018, Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Bowie played at the Swiss Open Badminton Championships and won the Super 300 men’s doubles title by defeating Thai powerhouse Thien Isriyanet/Kittisa Nandash 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) in the men’s doubles final. In March of the same year, he and Mathias Bowie played in the All England Open Badminton Championships, winning the runner-up spot in the men’s doubles final against the tournament’s top seeds and world No. 1s, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sangaya Sukamuyo, 0-2 (18-21, 17-21).
