Character Introduction
Choi Sol-gyu (Korean: 최솔규; August 5, 1995) is a South Korean male badminton player.
In 2011, Choi represented the national team at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Taoyuan County, winning second place in the Mixed Team and third place in the Mixed Doubles event (with Choi Yudong).
In 2012, he won the third place in mixed team at the World Junior Badminton Championships held in Chiba Prefecture.
In October 2013, Choi won the gold medal for Korea in the mixed team event at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. At the end of December, Choi and Choi Yudong competed in the Vietnam Badminton Grand Prix. In the mixed doubles final, they faced the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Liao Min-jung/Chen Hsiao-Huan of Chinese Taipei, and defeated their opponents in a thrilling three-set match, 2-1 (22-20, 19-21, 21-14), as well as winning their first adult tournament title since the two teamed up.
In September 2015, Kei Hyo and Yim Hwee Won played in the Thailand Badminton Golden Grand Prix, defeating Pravin Jordan/Debbie Susanto 2-1 (21-19, 17-21, 21-16) in three sets to be crowned the Golden Grand Prix champions for the first time.
In September 2016, Hyung Rate Kyu represented South Korea at the World University Badminton Championships in the Moscow Region of Russia, winning the third place of the tournament in the mixed team. At the same time, he teamed up with Kim Jae-hwan to win the gold medal in the men’s doubles competition.
On November 17, 2019, in the men’s doubles final of the 2019 Badminton World Federation Super 500 Hong Kong Badminton Open in China, Rate-kyu Choi/Seo Seung-jae won their career-high title by upsetting the No. 2 seeded Asan/Setiawan by a total score of 2:1.
