Finnish Players Shine on Home Turf

The 2024 Yonex Finnish International took place from April 25th to 28th, proving to be a fruitful event for Finnish players excelling on home soil.

In the women’s doubles, the Finnish pair Pihla Mäkela/Helena Santalahti won the bronze medal. In mixed doubles, Anton Kaisti/Oona Tapola advanced to the finals, earning a well-deserved silver medal, while Julius von Pfaler/Jenni Vähäsarja also secured bronze in the same category. Finnish young talent Nella Nyqvist shone in the women’s singles, making an impressive run to the finals with a series of convincing victories, even defeating seeded players. Despite a strong performance in a three-game final, Nyqvist ultimately lost to French third seed Anna Tatarinova, finishing as the runner-up.

Another French player, sixth seed Grégoire Deschamps, also delivered an outstanding performance, securing the silver medal in the men’s singles. The Estonian team excelled as well, particularly in doubles, winning four medals, including three in men’s doubles.

The European circuit continues this week at the 2024 Yonex Luxembourg Open, taking place from May 2nd to 5th.
