Frequent Bird Droppings During Match: Truly the India Open

According to Malaysian television reports, a strange and amusing incident occurred during the 2024 India Open Round of 16 women’s doubles match between Malaysian pair Hoo Kah Mun/Lim Chiew Sien and the Hong Kong duo Yeung Nga Ting/Yang Pei Leng.

During the match, bird droppings and dust continuously fell from the ceiling, causing multiple interruptions. The Malaysian pair was affected by these interruptions and lost to the Hong Kong team 1-2 (11-21, 21-15, 10-21).

This isn’t the first time that bird droppings have caused issues at international tournaments in India. At the end of last year, during the 2023 Syed Modi International Badminton Championships (Super 300), players noticed many birds flying inside the venue and leaving droppings everywhere.

No court was spared, leading some fans to joke, “Imagine the match is at 19-19, and suddenly bird droppings fall from the sky…”
