Ivan Sozonov

Character Introduction

Ivan Sozonov (Russian: Иван Созонов, born July 6, 1989) is a Russian male badminton player.

In 2009, Ivan Sozonov, along with Vladimir Ivanov, won the men’s doubles title at the Russian Open and successfully defended the title the following year.

In July 2013, Ivan Sozonov represented Russia at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, where he won the silver medal in men’s doubles.

In August 2013, Sozonov competed in the World Badminton Championships held in Guangzhou, China. Partnering with Vladimir Ivanov as the 4th seed in men’s doubles, they received a bye in the first round but were defeated in the second round by Malaysia’s Zakry Abdul Latif/Fairuzizuan Tazari with a score of 0–2 (21–14, 15–21, 16–21).

In April 2014, Ivan Sozonov represented Russia at the European Badminton Championships, winning the men’s doubles title by defeating the 4th seeds from Denmark, Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding, 2–0 (21–13, 21–16). This victory made them the first Russian pair to win the men’s doubles title at the European Championships.

In July 2015, Sozonov and Ivanov won the men’s doubles title at the Russian Grand Prix by defeating Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong 2–0 (22–20, 21–19) in the final.

In March 2016, the duo achieved their biggest career victory by winning the prestigious All England Open men’s doubles title, defeating Japan’s Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa, 2–1 (21–23, 21–18, 21–16), making them the first Russian pair to win the All England men’s doubles title.
