Kenichi Hayakawa


Character Introduction

Kenichi Hayakawa is a Japanese male badminton player.

In November 2010, Hayakawa represented Japan at the Guangzhou Asian Games, competing in the men’s doubles (with Dayu Endo) and team events.

In 2011, Hayakawa and Dayu Endo competed in the Australian Open and defended their title in the Men’s Doubles Final, defeating teammates Naoki Kawamae and Shoji Sato 2-0 (21-17, 21-18).

In 2012, Hayakawa teamed up with Dayu Endo to compete in the U.S. Open Badminton Championships, winning the Men’s Doubles Final, defeating teammates Yoshitoshi Hirobe/Kenta Kurono 2-0 (21-15, 21-10).

In August 2013, Kenichi Hayakawa participated in the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China, where he competed with Misaki Matsutomo and Dayu Endo in the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles events. In mixed doubles, he and Misaki Matsutomo defeated the Czech pair 2-0 in the first round, and then 2-0 (21-7, 21-19) in the second round to advance to the 13th seeded Anders Christiansen/Julie Hohmann of Denmark; and then beat Kim Ki-jung/Jung Kyung-yin of South Korea 2-1 (21-16, 11-21, 21-11) in the third round, to advance to the last eight; but finally, he had to fight a hard-fought battle in the third round to defeat Kim Ki-jung/Jung Kyung-yin of South Korea 1-2 (21-16, 11-21, 21-11), to advance to the last eight; and finally, he was defeated in a hard-fought battle in the third round. In the men’s doubles, he and Tontowi Ahmad/Liliana Nasir of Indonesia, the No. 3 seeds, went out 1-2 (10-21, 21-17, 19-21) after a hard-fought three-set match. As for the men’s doubles, he and Dayu Endo played in the men’s doubles event as the No. 4 seeds. They had a blank in the first round, and advanced in the second and third rounds with 2-0 victories over the English and Malaysian pairings; but by the quarterfinals, they were defeated 0-2 (13-21, 20-22) by No. 8 seeded Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng of China, and stopped in the round of 8.

In February 2017, Kenichi Hayakawa announced his retirement after the Badminton S/J League. He began coaching the Japan National Badminton Team B from the same year.
