Kunlavut VITIDSARN
Character Introduction
Kunlavut Vitidsarn is a Thai male badminton player.He became the first male World Junior Badminton Champion in Thai badminton when he won the World Junior Badminton Championships men’s singles title in 2017. He then won three consecutive World Junior Championships including 2017, 2018, and 2019, and has been described as a talented young Thai.
In July 2017, Kunravut lost in the semifinals of the Asian Youth Championships to Leong Chun Ho of Malaysia, finishing third in the men’s singles, while in the final of the World Youth Championships held in November of the same year, Kunravut faced Leong Chun Ho once again and defeated his opponent with a 2-1 victory, becoming the first-ever Thai badminton world men’s singles champion at the World Youth Championships.
In November 2018, Kunravut played in the Nepal International Series and won his first title in an adult category international tournament by defeating Malaysia’s Suthep Ji 2-1 (20-22, 22-20, 21-9) in the men’s singles final.
Then in November 2018, he successfully defended his title at the World Youth Championships in the men’s singles final by defeating Konda Naraoka of Japan 2-0 (21-9, 21-11), becoming the second player in the tournament’s history to defend the men’s singles title since Chinese athlete Chen Jin in 2002, and once again rewriting the best ever result by a Thai player in the men’s singles at the World Youth Championships.
Entering 2019, Kunravut won the Men’s Singles title at the Iranian International Challenger, Polish Open, Finnish Open, and Spanish International, winning three of the finals against young players of similar age from various countries, and only losing to fellow Japanese player Naraoka Kondo in the final of the Mongolia International.
In October 2019, Kunravut made his fourth appearance at the World Youth Championships, reaching the final again in the men’s singles event and defeating France’s Christo Popov 21-8, 21-11 to win his third consecutive World Youth Championships men’s singles title, making him the best men’s singles finisher in the tournament’s history, and only the second Thai player to reach a World Youth Championships triple-header, after Rachaono Indanon.
On March 14, 2022, Kunravut won the men’s singles final of the German Open on the Badminton World Tour, defeating Lakshya Sen 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) in 57 minutes.
On August 28, 2022, he won the silver medal at the Tokyo Badminton World Championships in the final against Denmark’s Anselmo Ansalon, creating the best men’s singles result in Thai badminton history.
In January 2023, Kunravut won the men’s singles final of the India Open Badminton Championships, defeating Anselmo Ansalon 22-20, 10-21, 21-12 in the final.
In August 2023, Kunravut won the World Badminton Championships with a come-from-behind victory over Japan’s Kondo Naraoka 19-21,21-18,21-7, becoming the first post-00s men’s singles champion in the history of the World Championships and taking the first ever men’s singles gold medal for Thailand.
