Muhammad Rian ARDIANTO


Character Introduction

Muhammad Rian Ardianto (February 13, 1996) is an Indonesian male badminton player who specializes in the men’s doubles event.

In February 2014, Muhammad Rian Ardianto represented Indonesia at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Taipei, Taiwan, winning the bronze medal in the team event with his team. In April of the same year, he represented Indonesia at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Alor Setar, Malaysia, where he played with two youth partners, Clinton Hendrik Kudamasa and Rosilda Ikka Putri Sari, respectively, and won a silver medal in the team event in the first team event, as well as third place in the Men’s Doubles and second place in the Mixed Doubles in the individual event. In August of the same year, he played in the Indonesia Badminton International Challenge with Faja Alfran, and in the final, defeated teammates Fran Kurniawan Deng/Agrippina Prima Romanto Putra 3-1 (9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8) to win his first international tournament title.

In October 2016, Muhammad Rian Adianto and Faja Alfran played in the Chinese Taipei Badminton Masters, where they defeated Singapore’s Koh Yong Kay/Lok Kian Hian, 3-2 (6-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8), in the semi-finals. In the final, the team narrowly defeated the tournament’s No. 1 seed Chen Honglin/Wang Qilin of Chinese Taipei 3-2 (11-6, 11-6, 11-13, 9-11, 12-10) to win their first Grand Prix title.

In January 2017, Mohammad Rian Adianto played in the Badminton India Golden Grand Prix with Faja Alfran and went down 1-2 (21-11, 17-21, 19-21) in the semi-finals to the tournament’s top seed and Danish powerhouse, Mathias Bowie/Karsten Mogensen. At the end of the year, in October, he and Faja Alfran played in the Bitburger Badminton Golden Grand Prix, where they were defeated 1-2 (19-21, 21-19, 18-21) in the final against the tournament’s No. 2 seed and Denmark’s Kim Astrup/Anders Skorup Rasmussen.

In August 2018, Muhammad Rian Adianto represented Indonesia at the Asian Games badminton tournament in his home country, helping the Indonesians win the men’s team silver medal in the first team event. He and Faja Alfran played in the men’s doubles, and they breezed past Khuvituguldur Byambajav/Batdavaa Munkhbat of Mongolia 2-0 (21-4, 21-7) in the first round; in the second round, put in an impressive performance to beat Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae of South Korea’s newcomers 2-0 (21-18, 21-13); and in the quarterfinals. Beat Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sun/Zhang Yuyu in straight sets 2-0 (21-17, 21-13); In the semifinals, beat China’s Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen in a thrilling three-set match 2-1 (21-14, 19-21, 21-13), locking up the right to be crowned finalists of the event for the hosts in advance, and revealing a long-lasting advantage of owning the event.

On October 17, 2021, the Indonesian team of Muhammad Rian Adianto and Jin Ting, Faja Alfran and Jonathan won the Thomas Cup badminton team final with a 3-0 victory over China.

On January 16, 2023, Adianto partnered Alfian in the men’s doubles final of the Malaysian Open and won his first Super 1000 men’s doubles title with a 21-18, 18-21, 21-13 victory over Leong Wee Klang/Wang Chang.

In March 2023, Adianto partnered Alfian to play in the All England Badminton Open and won his first All England Men’s Doubles title with a 21-17, 21-14 victory over teammates Ashan/Hendra in the final.

On March 17, 2024, Muhammad Rian Adianto partnered Fajar Alfian in the All England Open Men’s Doubles final, defeating Malaysian duo Tse Ting Fong/Su Wei Yip 21-16, 21-16 to successfully defend their All England Open Men’s Doubles title.
