Olympic Champion Wang Yilyu Officially Announces Retirement!
On June 3, Olympic champion Wang Yilyu officially announced his retirement on his personal social media. The original text is as follows:
Hello everyone, I am Wang Yilyu, a player of the Chinese badminton team.
This may be the last time I address myself this way. Due to personal injuries, I have been unable to continue daily training for a long time. I now officially submit my resignation to the national team. I thank the leaders and coaches of the national team for their help and for supporting my decision.
Saying goodbye is a very difficult decision for me. From entering the national team in February 2012, I have spent 11 years dedicating the best time of my youth to badminton, which in turn has given me countless wonderful memories. Now, however, I feel more reluctance and gratitude. I will miss this big family of the badminton team, my brothers and sisters, and my comrades who fought alongside me. I am grateful to this collective, full of a sense of responsibility, for helping me grow. I sincerely want to thank the national team for nurturing me over the years, and I appreciate the encouragement and help from all the leaders, coaches, and staff. It was your support that gave me the courage to rise again during every low point.
I thank my family for their silent support and understanding. I thank my fans for every cheer; you have always been my motivation. There is a spirit called “Huang Duck,” and a partnership called “Huang Duck.” I hope this spirit can always accompany you. Siwei, Yaqiong, my comrades for 20 years, it’s a pity we can’t continue to be comrades for 30 years. I am very happy to have spent my entire career with you, and I wish you all the best.
Lastly, I want to thank my partner Huang Dongping, one of the strongest and most passionate girls I have ever met. In our six years as partners, every quarrel and every failure only made us more in sync, which led to the wonderful memories of that summer. Although I can’t continue to fight alongside you, I will still support you. Heaven will not disappoint those who work hard; I hope you continue to strive for greatness.
Saying goodbye is always sad, but I will not leave the court, nor will I leave badminton. This has always been my career. In the future, I will continue to work in badminton, contributing to its promotion. I wish the Chinese badminton team all the best. If the team needs me in any way, I will always be ready to serve. I look forward to seeing you again.
