Radithya Breaks Indonesia’s Dry Spell

Radithya Bayu Wardhana has ended Indonesia’s long wait for the U17 men’s singles title with a stellar performance at the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Junior Championships 2024. In the finals held at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Radithya triumphed over China’s Fan Hong Xuan in straight games. His victory marks a historic moment, as Radithya becomes only the second Indonesian to clinch the U17 men’s singles title, following Firman Abdul Kholik’s win in 2013.

Radithya showed resilience and skill, coming back from a mid-game deficit in the first set to win 21-14 in just 14 minutes. He continued his dominance in the second set, overcoming Fan with a 21-13 win, showcasing his exceptional talent and composure.

China’s Strong Showing in Women’s Events

China made a significant impact at the championships, securing two titles. In women’s singles, unseeded Shi Si Chen stunned the top-seeded Yataweemin Ketklieng with a 21-9, 22-20 victory. This win adds Shi’s name to a distinguished list of Chinese women’s singles champions, following Zhang Shen in 2006 and He Bing Jiao in 2012.

In the women’s doubles final, Liu Yi Nuo and Xu Xiu Yan triumphed over compatriots Li Meng Han and Li Yue Yu with a well-fought 21-15, 21-18 victory in 43 minutes. This added another gold to China’s impressive tally at the event.

Indonesia and Chinese Taipei Claim Titles

Indonesia also made its mark, winning the men’s doubles title through Muhammad Rizki Mubarrok and Raihan Daffa Pramono. In a thrilling three-game battle, the Indonesian pair emerged victorious against Tu Yi Chen and Wei Jian Zhen with scores of 21-16, 13-21, 21-17.

Chinese Taipei secured its share of the spoils, winning the mixed doubles crown. Lin Shen-Min and Liao Pin-Che outlasted Feng Yi Lang and Tan Ke Xuan in a tightly contested match, ending with a score of 17-21, 21-19, 21-19.

Korea Shines in U-15 Categories

Korea excelled in the U-15 competition, clinching two titles. Lee Yun Seo and Park Yu claimed victory in the women’s doubles with a 21-19, 21-10 win over Au-Yeung Wing Chi and Ip Sum. In the mixed doubles, Seo Hyun Kyu and Park Yoo Jeong triumphed over Kao En Chi and Chang Li Sin with a 18-21, 21-9, 21-18 result.

Final Results from the Championships

China secured one additional title in the U-15 men’s singles, with Qian Jia Xing defeating Chuang Yun Neng from Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-14, 21-13.

India’s top seed, Tanvi Patri, ended the championships on a high note by winning the U-15 men’s singles. Tanvi overcame Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen of Vietnam with a score of 22-20, 21-11. Chinese Taipei rounded off the tournament with the men’s doubles title, where Chen Yu-xiang and Kao En-chi bested Lai Yu Hao and Liu Yun Hao with a close 21-23, 23-21, 21-14 victory.
