South Korean Presidential Office Responds to An Se Young: Will Investigate After Understanding Both Sides Positions
On August 6, South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo reported exclusively that in response to South Korean badminton player An Se-young’s public statements about the Korea Badminton Association (KBA) and the national team following her gold medal win at the Paris Olympics, the South Korean presidential office has announced that they will conduct a fair investigation after understanding the positions of both An Se-young and the KBA.
According to a previous report by Yonhap News Agency, on August 5, after winning the gold medal, An Se-young admitted in an interview that her knee injury was more severe than expected and expressed disappointment with the national team’s hasty handling of it. She mentioned that after winning the gold medal, she had serious doubts about her ability to continue with the national team. Additionally, An Se-young criticized the KBA, stating that they “restrict everything on one hand, yet neglect under the guise of freedom on the other.”
In response, a senior official from the presidential office stated in a phone interview on August 6, “An Se-young has raised concerns, and after the Olympics, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism needs to investigate the truth,” adding, “This is not something that can be ignored. We will conduct a fair investigation after hearing the positions of both An Se-young and the KBA.”
The senior official also confirmed that President Yoon Suk-yeol is aware of An Se-young’s remarks.
