Srikanth Kidambi

Character Introduction

Srikanth Kidambi is an Indian male badminton player. Srikanth was born in February 1993 in Andhra Pradesh in a Brahmin family. His father, KVS Krishna, was a farmer, his mother, Radha, was a housewife, and his brother, NandaGopal, was also a badminton player.

At the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, Srikanth won a silver medal in mixed doubles and a bronze medal in men’s doubles. At the All India Youth International Badminton Championships in the same year, he won the singles and doubles titles. At the Asian Youth Championships, he won a bronze medal in mixed doubles.

In the 2013 Golden Grand Prix Thailand Open, Srikanth won the men’s singles title with a 2-0 victory over Posana, and in the All India Championships of the same year, Srikanth became the Indian men’s singles champion with a victory over Kashyap.

In 2014, Srikanth’s results skyrocketed as he finished second in the Golden Grand Prix India Open; he reached the top 8 in the Malaysia Open; he was one of the top four members of the men’s badminton team at the Commonwealth Games, and the men’s singles team also made it to the top 8; and Srikanth made it to the finals of the China Open in November, defeating five-time World Champion Lin Dan in the final to win the premier superseries for the first time, and to make it to the end-of-the-year finals .

On October 23, 2017, the 2017 BWF Super Series Denmark Open came to an end, with Srikanth of India breezing past Lee Hyun-il 2-0 (21-10, 21-5) to win the men’s singles match in just 25 minutes.

The third edition of the Indian Sports Awards was held in Mumbai on February 27, 2018, where Srikanth ended up winning the “Sportsman of the Year 2017” and “Badminton’s Male Sportsman of the Year 2017” awards, while Sindhu was awarded the “Badminton Female Athlete of the Year 2017”.

On April 12, 2018, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the latest edition of its world rankings. In men’s singles, Indian No. 1 Srikanth surpassed Anselmo to reach the No. 1 spot for the first time.

He finished second in the men’s singles at the Badminton World Championships in 2021.
