Character Introduction

Tse Ying Suet (November 9, 1991) is a Hong Kong, Chinese female badminton player who specializes in doubles events; most notably in mixed doubles. She won third place in the women’s doubles at the 2009 World Youth Championships with youngster Poon Lok-yan, and their partnership was ranked as high as ninth in the world, while her partnership with adult partner Tang Chun-man was ranked as high as second in the world.

Tse started playing badminton with her mother when she was a child, and began her badminton career in 2006 when she was selected to play for the Hong Kong Badminton Team.

In November 2009, Tse won the bronze medal in women’s doubles with Poon Lok Yan at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Malaysia, which was the best result ever for the Hong Kong team. In December of the same year, she represented Hong Kong, China to compete in the East Asian Games, winning a bronze medal in the women’s team badminton event.

In March 2010, Xie Yingxue won the mixed doubles title at the German Badminton Grand Prix for the first time together with veteran Wei Yanjun. In November of the same year, she represented Hong Kong, China at the Guangzhou Asian Games, competing in the women’s doubles (with Poon Lok Yan), mixed doubles (with Wei Yan Kwan) and team events.

In September 2012, Xie Yingxue and Poon Lok Yan competed in the Japan Badminton Super Series Women’s Doubles Tournament, defeating three host pairs in a row from the round of sixteen to reach the final, and then defeating Japan’s Shizuka Matsuo / Makoto Naito 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) in the final to win Hong Kong’s first Super Series Women’s Doubles Championship, and also became the first pair of Hong Kong’s native Super Series Champions.

During 2014, the coach of the Hong Kong team arranged for Xie Yingxue and Poon Lok Yan to split up. In May of the following year, Hong Kong coach Chan Hong announced that she and Poon Lok Yan had “reunited” in order to qualify for the Olympics, believing that they had a chance to compete in the Olympics.

In October 2015, she and Poon Lok Yan played in the round of sixteen of the 2015 Denmark Premier Badminton Super Tournament, Xie Yingxue/Poon Lok Yan faced the Japanese pairing of Shoko Fukumi/Japanese Walnut, and had played with their opponents for 4 minutes and 31 seconds in a row, with a total of more than 250 back-and-forth, which set the world record for the longest back-and-forth ball ever played.

In October 2017, she played in Denmark’s premier badminton super tournament with Leanne Pan and Junwen Deng, respectively. She and Deng Junwen first defeated Rio Olympic and World Champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliana Nasir of Indonesia 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) in the Mixed Doubles semifinals, and then narrowly lost to world No. 1 Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen of China 2-1 (24-22, 19-21, 23-21) in the final to win their first Super Series title since teaming up. They won their first Super Series title together.

In July 2021, the team of Xie Yingxue and Deng Junwen competed in the Tokyo Olympic mixed doubles badminton tournament, which was postponed due to the epidemic. They beat their opponents in the group stage to reach the semifinals, but lost to the top-seeded Chinese pair Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong 0-2 (16-21, 12-21) to fall into the bronze medal match. In the bronze medal match, the “Deng Xie Pair” had a tough battle against the world No.5 hosts, Watanabe Yonda and Higashino Yusa; they lost two sets in a row, 0-2 (17-21, 21-23), and lost the medal, finishing in fourth place, but breaking the record of Hong Kong team.
