Viktor Axelsen won the semi-final – winning his third consecutive Olympic medal

Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen qualified for the Olympic final after a thrilling match against Lakshya Sen of India.

Sen looked in control for most of the game and took the lead at a number of crucial moments. But after defending three match points, the Dane took the first set at 22:20 on his first match point.

The Indian player also looked in complete control in the second as he raced to a 7-0 lead but soon, Axelsen slowly closed on him, taking a 13-12 lead after a correct challenge call from the Dane. After that, Akkelson did not hold back, taking the initiative the rest of the game, and won the second set 21-14.

The victory meant Akkelson won his third consecutive Olympic medal, and he is the only badminton player to win an Olympic medal at this Games. Akkelson won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics and gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Waiting for him in the final was world champion Kunrawut Wittison. The two players have met seven times before, with Vidisarn claiming only one victory. That, though, was the last time they met in the final of the 2023 YONEX SUNRISE Indian Open, when Vetisarn won in three sets. It will certainly boost the world champion’s confidence as he aims to make himself an Olympic champion as well.

Will Victor win his first Olympic silver medal or his second gold? Tomorrow we’ll find out, and we couldn’t be more excited!

We will continue to report on social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and on our website.
