Character Introduction
Patti Wong is a Malaysian female badminton player.
In 2002, Patti started pairing up with Tan Yee Hwee, and a few months after they partnered up, they won a bronze medal at their first Republican Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England. They went on to win gold medals at the 2005 Eastern Games in the Philippines and the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, making them the premier women’s doubles team of the Malaysian national team.
Patti Wong and Tan Yee Hwee have competed in the Olympics twice. In the 2004 Athens Olympics, they defeated the Japanese pair of Shizuka Yamamoto and Aoko Yamada in the first round, but were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to Huang Sui and Gao Diamond of China.
In 2008, Patti Wong and Chen Yi Hui had a breakthrough year, reaching their first Super Series final, finishing second in the Japan Super Series, and then winning the Denmark Super Series and the BWF Super Series Finals. On January 15, 2009, the duo reached the world number one spot.
In June 2012, after confirming that she would not be competing in the Olympics for the third time, Petty Wong announced that she was officially retiring from the sport after playing in the Indonesia Premier Superseries. After her retirement, she was appointed by the Malaysian Badminton Federation as a coach at the Bukit Jalil Sports School, and was later in charge of the National Reserve Team’s women’s doubles training.
