Park Sung Hwan


Character Introduction

Park Sung Hwan (Korean: 박성환, September 4, 1984) is a South Korean male badminton player who faded from competition due to failed wrist surgery.

Park was eliminated in the third round of the 2007 World Badminton Championships men’s singles by Chen Yu of China 15-21, 21-16, 21-15. He won the men’s singles title at the 2008 Badminton Asia Championships, and was eliminated in the third round of the men’s singles competition at the Beijing Olympics by the world’s top badminton player, Lin Dan of China.

In November 2010, Park Sung-hwan represented Korea at the Guangzhou Asian Games, competing in the Men’s Singles and Men’s Team events in badminton, winning one silver and one bronze.

Park Sung-hwan underwent wrist surgery before the 2012 London Olympics, but left the game after the surgery failed leaving him unable to use his right hand. He has now switched to using his left hand to compete in domestic badminton tournaments for the disabled.
