Viktor Axelsen has retained his Olympic title!
Victor Axelsen easily defeated world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-11, 21-11 to retain his Olympic title, his second Olympic gold medal and his third in a row, the only player to win three consecutive Olympic gold MEDALS.
It was a remarkable feat for the former world number one as his 2024 has not been an easy one and he has struggled to regain the winning streak that many expected of him – apart from the Malaysian Masters, where he managed to win.
“Considering that this is an Olympic double gold medal in men’s singles, I am very shocked. Not many people have done that, and not many people will do that. Lin Dan is the best player of all time, he did it and now I have done it too. It’s crazy, “Akelson told DR NEWS.
As for how he will celebrate, Akelson said with a smile: “I never get drunk, but today I’m going to get really drunk, even for two nights.”
He is certainly entitled to celebrate after this great achievement.
It was an incredible coverage of the Olympics. We would like to thank all our members, all the European athletes, organisers and volunteers, and especially congratulate Viktor Axelsen for bringing Denmark a second gold medal.
