Peter Rasmussen
Character Introduction
Peter Rasmussen (August 2, 1974) is a retired Danish male badminton player. He is known as the “Killer in Black” because of his preference for wearing black jerseys during matches.
Rasmussen may be remembered for his 126-minute battle with Chinese player Sun Jun in the men’s singles championship final of the 1997 World Championships, in which Sun suffered severe cramps in his thighs and lost 1:2. Rasmussen went on to become the first non-Asian player to win a World Championship men’s singles title since 1977.
After Rasmussen won the men’s singles title at the 1997 World Championships, there was a major downturn in his performance. In recent years, he has not been involved in official badminton tournaments due to injuries and lack of confidence. But by the 2004 Thomas Cup, he managed to crush Indonesia’s dream of 6 consecutive titles as the third singles.
In 2004, Peter Rasmussen retired from the sport and moved to Denmark to work as an ophthalmologist in a public hospital.
