Mauritius Dominates Africa: Sensational Lucas Douce Reigns Supreme at All Africa U19 Championships with Four Gold Medals!

The All Africa Individual Championships, held in Thiès, Senegal, witnessed an electrifying display of talent as Mauritius’ own Lucas Douce stole the spotlight with a record-breaking performance, sweeping four gold medals across multiple categories. Douce’s remarkable achievements in Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and the Team Event solidified his status as a powerhouse in African badminton.

In an intense Men’s Singles final, Lucas battled against his Men’s Doubles partner, Aidan Yu Kiat Siow Yin Young. The match showcased fierce rivalry and camaraderie, culminating in Lucas clinching the title with a commanding 21-15, 21-8 victory. But this triumph was just the beginning of his spectacular run.

In the Men’s Doubles, Lucas and Aidan, the top-seeded duo, faced off against a formidable Algerian pair in the finals. Their skillful play and seamless teamwork shone through as they triumphed 21-12, 21-17, adding another dazzling gold to their collection.

The golden streak continued in the Mixed Doubles, where Lucas teamed up with Elsa How Hong. Facing the tough challenge of Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud and Fatema Rabie, the Mauritian team secured a thrilling 21-18, 21-16 win, marking Lucas’s third gold medal in individual events.

Elated and overjoyed, Lucas Douce shared his euphoria with BCA TV: “I am on cloud nine right now. I can’t believe I achieved a perfect sweep, like in football! A huge thank you to everyone who supported me—my family, friends, sponsors, coaches, MBA, and my entire team. Without their support, this would have been impossible. Now, with four gold medals, I just want to get home and celebrate with my parents, family, and friends. And a big thanks to Senegal for the warm welcome; it’s been a pleasure to compete here.”

On the women’s side, the competition was just as exhilarating. Egypt’s Reem Hussien captured the Women’s Singles title in a gripping three-set battle against her compatriot and second seed Elgendy Hadia. Reem’s hard-fought victory, with scores of 15-21, 21-9, 21-15, showcased her resilience and determination. Reflecting on her achievement, Reem told BCA TV, “I am thrilled to be crowned African Champion. This is a significant moment in my life, and achieving this goal, which I’ve been working towards since last year, is incredibly fulfilling. I hope to carry this momentum forward into the senior category.”

In the Women’s Doubles, the How Hong sisters from Mauritius celebrated their African Championship title with an emphatic victory over Egypt’s Elgendy Hadia and Reem Hussien. The sisters exhibited their exceptional synergy, dominating the match with a decisive 21-14, 21-16 win, and proving their prowess on the court.
