Mark Caljouw

Character Introduction

Mark Caljouw (born January 25, 1995) is a Dutch male badminton player.

In March 2013, Mark Caljouw competed in the European Youth Badminton Championships held in Ankara, Turkey. In the mixed team event, he helped the Netherlands team win a bronze medal. In the singles event, he finished third after losing 0-2 (17-21, 14-21) to Fabian Roth of Germany.

In March 2017, Mark Caljouw participated in the Orleans International Challenge, where he won the men’s singles title by defeating the 4th seed, Lucas Corvée of France, 2-1 (21-6, 18-21, 21-11) in the final.

In March 2018, Caljouw competed in the Orleans Masters and won his first BWF World Tour 100 men’s singles title by overcoming the 3rd seed, Rasmus Gemke of Denmark, 2-1 (10-21, 21-18, 21-8) in the final.

At the 2021 All England Open, he won the first round with a convincing 21-7, 21-7 victory over Khosit Phippardab of Thailand. In the second round, he defeated Nguyen Nhat of Vietnam 21-18, 21-7. He reached the semifinals by overcoming Lakshya Sen 21-17, 16-21, 21-17 but lost to the reigning champion, Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia, 13-21, 17-21, achieving the best result in Dutch badminton history.

In 2021, Caljouw represented the Netherlands in the Tokyo Olympics, reaching the top 16 in the men’s singles event. He was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Kevin Cordon, finishing in 9th place.
