Kento Momota Admits He Hasnt Considered Paris; Aims for One More Championship Before Retiring

Momota confessed that he no longer finds joy in playing badminton, which led to his decision to take a break from the sport and withdraw from all upcoming competitions, including the Denmark Open and the French Open.

In the latest world rankings, Momota has dropped from seventh to ninth place. His absence from the remaining events also means he will lose his qualification for the year-end finals. During his discussion with Jinnai, Momota mentioned that after his unexpected early exit in the group stage of the Tokyo Olympics, he has been contemplating retirement every day. He felt like he was merely going through the motions during subsequent training and competitions and had lost his motivation. Regarding the Paris Olympics in two years, Momota stated that he currently has no plans or intentions to prepare for it.

Future Goals

Momota expressed his hope to win another championship before retiring: “I am already 28 years old. I don’t think my career will last much longer, so I will try to stay positive and make one last effort.”
