European Badminton Eyes Azerbaijan and Ibiza

Azerbaijan has secured the hosting rights for the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships, while Ibiza will host the 2024 European Junior Championships.

During a high-profile week at the 2024 European Championships, Badminton Europe made two significant announcements regarding upcoming events—selecting Baku, Azerbaijan, and Ibiza, Spain, as the hosts for the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships and the 2024 European Junior Championships, respectively.

Baku has recently played a pivotal role in European badminton. Following the successful hosting of the 2023 European Badminton Congress, Azerbaijan’s capital showcased its organizational capabilities by hosting one of the qualifiers for the 2024 European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships.

These successful events have further solidified Azerbaijan’s reputation in the badminton community, making it an excellent choice for the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships. Sven Serré, President of Badminton Europe, stated, “Our previous collaborations with the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation have been highly productive. Their commitment to excellence and passion for our sport make them a perfect host for one of our flagship events. We are excited to return to Baku and look forward to hosting a spectacular competition with Europe’s best mixed national teams.”

Dr. Taleh Ziyadov, President of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, added in the announcement, “On behalf of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, I am delighted to learn that Baku has been selected to host the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships. This recognition underscores the progress our federation and its dedicated team have made in advancing our shared goal of promoting inclusivity and accessibility in badminton worldwide. We eagerly look forward to celebrating Badminton Europe’s success and warmly welcoming all teams to Baku for another unforgettable experience!”

Picturesque Ibiza has been chosen as the venue for the 2024 European Junior Championships, a decision resulting from the joint efforts of the Ibiza Town Council, the Spanish Badminton Federation, and the Balearic Badminton Federation. The event will take place from November 26 to December 5, 2024, at the Sa Blanca Dona Sports Hall, followed by the Spanish U15 and U17 International from December 6 to 8. This venue, home to CB Pitiús, is renowned in the Spanish badminton community for its prestige.

BEC President Sven Serré expressed his enthusiasm for selecting Ibiza as the host for the European Junior Championships, stating, “The Spanish Badminton Federation’s expertise in organizing top-tier events, combined with Ibiza’s success as the host of last year’s European U15 Championships, sets the stage for a grand European Junior Championships. We look forward to seeing the future stars of European badminton shine in Ibiza.”

Ibiza has previously hosted premier badminton events, such as the Iberdrola International and the Spanish U15 and U17 Internationals, solidifying its status as a badminton hub. The island boasts a rich badminton culture, with a talent pool and sports technology center highlighting its strengths, making it an ideal location for the European Junior Championships.
