Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Portuguese Badminton Federation

The European Badminton Association congratulates the Portuguese Badminton Federation on its 70th anniversary. Founded in 1954, the federation has played a significant role in promoting badminton both domestically and internationally.

Over the decades, Portugal has become a central hub for badminton in Europe, hosting numerous key events such as the RSL BEC Summer School, the 2011 European U17 Championships, and the 2014 European Senior Championships. These events were held in Caldas da Rainha, the heart of Portuguese badminton and the official training center for the national team. The annual Portuguese International Championships, along with the international junior and U17 tournaments organized by the federation, further highlight the country’s active role in the European circuit.

On this special occasion, Portuguese Badminton Federation President Horácio Miranda de Ornelas Bento de Gouveia explained, “July 1 marks the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Portuguese Badminton Federation. The past few years have seen significant development in Portuguese badminton. Indeed, the number of Portuguese players participating in international competitions has increased, and their level has improved. The smooth collaboration with BEC bodes well for the future of badminton in our country!”

Wishing Portuguese badminton continued success and growth in the years to come.
