Aaron Chia Teng Fong

Character Introduction

Aaron Chia Teng Fong (February 24, 1997) is a Malaysian male badminton player. He was born in Malacca and is the second oldest in his family. His father, Chee Boon Foo, is a badminton enthusiast, and Chee Teng Fong was influenced by his father’s interest in badminton and began to play the sport. Tse Ting Fong attended Malacca Primary School and Yuk Man Secondary School, and started representing Malacca in various tournaments at the age of 11 to 12. At the age of 14, he was selected to train at the Bukit Jalil Sports School, where he won the Under-15 Boys Doubles Championship of the Malaysian National Badminton League that year, and became a full-time badminton player at the age of 17.

In October 2018, Xie Dingfeng and Su Weiying traveled to the Salolu Open Badminton Championships in Saarbrücken, Germany, as the top seeds, and faced China’s Huang Kaixiang/Wang Zekang duo in the semifinals. After a 46-minute three-set thriller, they eventually took down their opponents 2-1 (23-21, 13-21, 21-14) to reach the Super 100 final for the first time in their careers.

In March 2019, the Xie Su pair participated in the All England Badminton Open, the second tier of the Badminton World Federation World Tour, and in the semi-final match, they faced the 2018 Asian Games Men’s Doubles Silver Medalist pair and the eighth seed of the tournament, Faja Alfrang/Muhammad Rian Alianto of Indonesia, and turned back their opponents 2-1 (12-21, 22-20, 21-19) to reach their first All England Open final. In the final, they flourished before falling short of the title with a 1-2 (21-11, 14-21, 12-21) loss to Indonesia’s Muhammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan combination.

In December 2019, the Xie Su pair went to the men’s doubles event of the Southeast Asian Games badminton tournament as the second seeds, and won the gold medal in the final against Thailand’s Bodin Ishara/Manipong Jongjit also in a similar 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 21-16) comeback.

In July 2021, Xie Su pair made their first appearance at the Olympic Games in the men’s doubles event, and in the last eight, Xie Su faced the challenge of the world’s top-ranked Indonesian “Little Yellow Man” pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sangaya Sukamuyor, and beat their opponents to advance to the semifinals with a cold 2-0 (21-14, 21-17). The victory over their opponents to reach the semifinals was the first for the Xie-Su pairing in the eight times the two sides have played each other. The bronze medal match was won 2-1 (17-21, 21-17, 21-14), successfully reversing the Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan combination to lift the bronze medal.

In the Men’s Doubles Final of the Tokyo 2022 Badminton World Championships, Tse Ting Fong and his teammate Soh Wee Heng won the World Championships Men’s Doubles Gold Medal with a two-set victory over the Hendra Setiawan/Muhammad Ahsan pairing, 21-19, 21-14, to take Malaysia’s first ever badminton world championship in a single tournament.

In October 2023, Xie Dingfeng/Su Weiyi teamed up to win the Super 750 Men’s Doubles title at the Denmark Open, defeating the Indonesian pair of Fikri/Mawlana in the Men’s Doubles final in straight sets.
