Finnish International Kicks Off in Vantaa

The Future Series tournament begins today in Vantaa, Finland. We are excited to report on this championship where up-and-coming European badminton players will have the opportunity to showcase their talents alongside the future stars of the sport.

In the men’s singles category, several notable European players are worth watching, including sixth seed Grégoire Deschamps. Deschamps won the mixed doubles at the 2019 Babolat French U17 International and secured silver in the men’s singles. He recently competed in a fierce three-game match against 2024 European Championships bronze medalist Joakim Oldorff at the 2024 ORLEN Polish Open (25-23, 15-21, 14-21). Another strong contender to watch is Subhankar Dey from India, a regular on the European circuit and the 2018 Super 100 champion. While he hasn’t achieved any major victories since 2018, the 2024 YONEX Finnish International might be his next triumph.

In the women’s singles category, there are familiar European names to keep an eye on. Scottish player Rachel Sugden, who faced a tough first-round match against Carolina Marin at the 2024 European Championships, is the fourth seed in this tournament. French player Anna Tatranova is the third seed and has performed well in the Future Series tournaments in Lithuania, Spain, and Latvia.

An interesting local player to watch is 18-year-old Nella Nyqvist. Since winning the 2020 European U15 Championships and the 2022 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, she has shown potential to become a future star. It remains to be seen if she can excel in the Future Series.

It is certainly exciting to see what will happen at the tournament, who will win, and if any big surprises will emerge.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
