Jung Kyung Eun


Character Introduction

Jung Kyung-Eun is a South Korean female badminton player.

In 2007, Jung won the second place in mixed team and women’s doubles (with Yoo Shing-young) at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

In 2010, she represented South Korea at the Uber Cup in Kuala Lumpur, where she helped the national team win the title. In the same year, she and Yoo Seok-young won the Women’s Doubles title at the Badminton Korea Golden Grand Prix, the first WBF Grand Prix title of her career.

In December 2011, she won the Women’s Doubles title at the Macau Badminton Grand Prix Gold with Kim Ha Na, and in the same month, she won the Mixed Doubles runner-up title at the Korean Badminton Grand Prix Gold with Kim Ki Jung.

In March, 2012, Jung Kyung-yeon and Kim Ha-na won the second place in women’s doubles of German Open Badminton Championships.

On the morning of July 31, 2012, the Danish duo of Camilla Rütter Juhl/Kristina Petersen from group d defeated the Chinese duo of Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei (Zhao was struck in the eye by a badminton ball during the match) in the women’s badminton doubles group stage of the 2012 Summer Olympics, and (Tian/Zhao) formed the second team of the group; because (Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei) were unable to win the group first place, which could have led to the two teams Chinese athletes to meet each other in advance before the final, so the other team in Group a, the world’s top-ranked Chinese pair Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli, went so far as to serve the ball out of bounds for both China and Korea during their noon match, with the ball going back and forth no more than four times during the first set; Korea’s team coach, Sung Han-kook, protested to the umpire against China’s apparent intentional point loss, and the head of the umpiring panel, Thorsten Berg, even walked onto the court in person, to Thorsten Berg, the head referee, even came into the court to remind the Chinese players to face it seriously. In the end, China lost 14-21, 11-21 to Zheng Jingyin/Kim Ha Na, and the crowd booed loudly; although the Korean team protested against the Chinese team, the Korean team’s established tactic was to have the two Korean players meet in the quarterfinals to ensure that a pair of them would make it to the quarterfinals. Eventually China, South Korea, Indonesia four groups of athletes were removed by the International Badminton Federation.

On August 14, the Korean Badminton Association decided to penalize the involved Ha Jeong-eun, Kim Min-jeong, Kim Ha-na and Jeong Kyung-yin by banning them from participating in any domestic and international badminton tournaments for the next two years.

In October 2015, Jung Kyung-yin and Shin Sung-chan competed in the Danish Badminton Premier Superseries, winning the adult international tournament and her first premier superseries women’s doubles title of her badminton career after her opponent withdrew in the women’s doubles final.

In August 2016, representing South Korea at the Olympic Games badminton tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she and Shin Seung-chan were seeded No. 5 by the tournament for the women’s doubles event; they won the women’s doubles Olympic bronze medal in the bronze medal match by sweeping the No. 2 seed of the tournament, Tang Yuanjian/Yu Yang of China, 2-0 (21-8, 21-17).
