Paris applauds the first French players on the field

Whether it’s live or on TV, the atmosphere at the Arena de La Chapelle is great. The Olympic Games always carry a special aura, but on the opening day, the French players felt more support from the home fans.

Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue, the first French pair to play badminton at these Olympics, were nearly forced into the third set against world number one and 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong [1]. The Chinese combination withstood the pressure and came back in the second set 20-19. Although the French pair put up a good fight, they narrowly won 21-14 23-21.

Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar also faced a tough challenge in their group opener, although they showed some strength, However, they lost 21-17, 21-14 to Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty of India.
