Pia Zebadiah Bernadet


Character Introduction

Pia Zebadiah Bernadet (January 22, 1989) is an Indonesian female badminton player, along with her brothers Malkis Kido and Bona Seputna. Pia debuted in both singles and doubles events, and has since specialized in doubles, having reached No. 6 in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles world rankings.

In July 2009, Pia and Fran Kurniawan Deng competed in the New Zealand Badminton Grand Prix, winning their first ever Grand Prix mixed doubles title, defeating the tournament’s top seeded Hong Kong, China pairing of Wei Yanjun/Zhou Kaihua 2-0 (21-13, 21-19) in the mixed doubles final.

In November 2010, Biya represented Indonesia at the Guangzhou Asian Games, competing in the mixed doubles (with Fran Kurniawan Deng) and women’s team events, winning the bronze medal in the women’s team.

In August 2013, Biya competed at the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China, where she was seeded 9th in the women’s doubles event with Riki Amelia Pratipta. They missed the first round of the tournament, then beat the Malaysian pair 2-0 in the second round, and in the third round, they faced the Thai pair of Nalisaipa Ram and Saralee Sangsongkam, and also won 2-1 (17-21, 21-16, 21-11), but in the quarterfinals, they were defeated by the No. 8 seeded pair of Yim Hye-won/Jang Ye-na of South Korea 0-2 (20-22, 15-21), and finished in the last eight of the tournament. In June 2014, Pia Zebadia Bernadette and Marquise Kido played in the Australian Badminton Premiership and were defeated 1-2 (12-21, 21-19, 12-21) in the Mixed Doubles semifinals against the tournament’s No. 6 seeds, Korean powerhouse Ko Sung-Hyun/Kim Ha-Na.

In January 2015, Pia Zebadia Bernadette and Ricky Amelia Pratipta played in the Malaysia Badminton Masters and went down 0-2 (12-21, 21-23) in the Women’s Doubles semifinals to the tournament’s top seed and Danish powerhouse, Kristina Petersen/Kamila Lutte Juhl.

In May 2016, at the age of 27, Pia announced her retirement after the Indonesia Premier Superseries.

In October 2017, Pia Zebadia Bernadette and Irfan Fatihlah played in the Indonesia Badminton International Challenge and won the runner-up spot in the Mixed Doubles final against teammates’ Rihan Nofal Kushaljanto/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadanti, 0-2 (9-21, 18-21).

In June 2019, Pia Zebadia Bernadette and Amri Sanawi played in the Badminton Malaysia International Series and won the International Series Mixed Doubles title by defeating the tournament’s No. 4 seed and teammates’ Andika Ramadiansya/Ben’e Fitriani Romandini 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) in the Mixed Doubles Final.
