Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin Split Partnership; Wang Chi-Lin:I Hope Not to Hinder Chiu Hsiang-Chieh

The “Lin-Yang” pair successfully defended their Olympic men’s doubles badminton title at the Paris Olympics, but this partnership will come to an end as Lee Yang retires. Wang Chi-Lin will now team up with 21-year-old rising star Chiu Hsiang-Chieh to continue competing on the international stage. At an event today, Wang Chi-Lin humorously remarked that the pressure of leading a junior player is significant, saying, “I hope I don’t hinder him.”

“Previously, it was senior players like Chen Hung-Ling partnering with Lee Yang, where they played more of a coordinating role while I executed the plays,” Wang Chi-Lin admitted when discussing the new partnership. “Now that I’m the one leading the junior player, I’ll need to take on more of a coordinating and leadership role. This means I must have a more mature mindset and maintain greater composure on the court.”

“Considering that such a young and promising junior player is willing to partner with me, I certainly hope not to hinder him,” Wang Chi-Lin humbly stated, adding that he plans to seek advice from Chen Hung-Ling and Lee Yang on strategies for partnership and play coordination.

Wang Chi-Lin mentioned that he will soon resume training, and next Sunday they will depart to prepare for tournaments in Japan and South Korea. “Next week, we’ll start working on our synergy and coordination. It will be a gradual process, but I hope we can perform well in the tournament the week after next.”
