Fire Breaks Out at Indonesia Masters, Match Suspended Due to Heavy Smoke

The Indonesia Masters’ semifinals faced an unexpected halt today shortly after the matches commenced.

Footage from the venue showed thick smoke billowing from the lighting equipment above the court, accompanied by the screams of the audience.

At the time, China’s Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu were leading 8-3. Spectators noticed what appeared to be a short circuit in the lighting equipment, causing panic and shouting. The four players on the court were inevitably affected. Initially, the referee signaled for the match to continue, but due to the pervasive smoke, the spectators’ screams, and safety concerns, the players protested against the continuation. The referee then decided to stop the match.

Although the players remained on the court, they covered their noses and mouths with towels, clearly uncomfortable. The match resumed after about half an hour.
